Dream Stuff

The Whitest Boy Alive’ debut album ‘Dreams’ is exactly what it says on the tin, a dream. Burning, the first track on the album sets the precedence for things to come. The mellow vocals combined with the addictive toe-tapping guitars give the album the perfect start. It’s followed by the second release from the album ‘Golden Cage’. This slow melodic song really catches the ear with the off-beat synthesizers giving the song its eerie edge.

‘Fireworks’ is next and again it takes the band to a different level. The main riff is very pop-punk and anyone hearing the vocals could be forgiven for mistaking it for Chris Martin of Coldplay. This trio of songs really give the album a gripping start. All three songs are quite different in their musical direction but all carry the simple riffs and signature vocals that make this band so addictive.

The next few songs revert back to the melodic style of ‘Golden Cage’ with the lyrics of ‘Done With You’ being well worth a listen. Then you hit the track ‘Inflation’, the first release from the album. The bands early electronic dance style is evident in this track although it still retains the soft melodies that are a recurring theme throughout the album.

The album finishes with the mellow melodic ballad, ‘All Ears’. This slow song could be seen as the album finishing weakly, but the reality is the song completes a well rounded album that contains everything from ballads to pop inspired feel good tunes. Some could perceive this mix of genres as nothing short of madness but on the contrary it all comes together in the right places making ‘Dreams’ a must have for fans in the market for an indie record with a dance inspired twist.
